Overview of I & R Program

Access to Independence maintains a large computerized database on subjects pertaining to disability-related services locally, state-wide and nationally. The I&R Department assists individuals as well as agencies in locating appropriate community resources. Some of the resources include:

  • Transportation services

  • Assistive technology

  • Recreation services

  • Legal resources

  • Disability-related organizations

  • General ADA information

  • Disability-specific information

  • Employment

  • ...and much, much more

    Consumer Workstations
In addition, the I&R Department provides two workstations for consumer use. These allow consumers with visual or mobility disabilities to write resumes, access the Internet and appraise their job skills or vocational goals.
Appointments are necessary to use the workstations and requests for reasonable accommodations should be addressed prior to the scheduled appointment date. Some accommodations require additional time to furnish.

    Consumer Library
The Center maintains a consumer library of information and resources on a diversity of subjects. Located in the I&R Department, this information is available for consumers to check out and return. One of the most useful features of the consumer library is the Job Opportunities Binder. Updated regularly, this resource contains a multitude of employment announcements from throughout the city and state. Any agencies looking to post job openings should contact the I&R Coordinator.
