More than a hundred people showed up on January 23rd at the Balboa Park Club to attend an interactive workshop on emergency preparedness for people with disabilities. The primary sponsor was the City of San Diego and the workshop was facilitated by June Isaacson Kailes, a renowned Disability Policy Consultant.

The event was cosponsored by Access to Independence (a2i), Louis Frick, the organization's Executive Director was among the panelists who provided specific insight regarding emergency preparedness as it related to the most recent series of wildfires in San Diego County.

Participants included a broad spectrum of people with disabilities and a myriad of city, county, state and federal officials involved in the area of emergency services. The event went a long way toward integrating the needs of people with disabilities into the emergency preparedness arena in order to better serve the community as a whole in the event of another disaster.
