Board of Directors

Mark Guglielmo, Board Chair, is Vice President of Operations of the San Diego Padres. He has a television background as a sports producer for a San Diego’s NBC affiliate station and studied Communications at UCSD.

Caren Sax, Treasurer, is a Professor at San Diego State University’s Department of Administration, Rehabilitation & Postsecondary Education and Coordinator of the Rehabilitation Counseling master’s degree program.

Susan Pontac has a master’s in Educational Technology from SDSU and a BA in Social Science. She has extensive experience in needs analysis, interview techniques, design, development, implementation and evaluation of instructional projects. She has worked with the Center since 1994.

Claudia Gucitua Silva is a Sr. Assistant City Attorney in National City. She has been a member of the Board since 2004 and also is part of the Nominating Committee and is the Chair of the Strategic Change Committee.

Cheryl Shensa is the supervising writ attorney at the California Court of Appeal in San Diego. She also is on the Strategic Planning and Personnel Committees at the Center. She joined the Board in 2005.

Ray Uzeta is Executive Director of the Chicano Federation of San Diego. One of the founders of the Center in 1976, he joined the Board in 2006.

Ismael Zepeda has a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from San Diego State University and is licensed as a CPA in CA. He is an accountant for the Chula Vista Elementary School District and joined the Board in 2008. He is the Chair of the Finance Committee and also serves on the Administrative Committee.
